I find the surgery, in general very friendly. The appointment system works well and I like the efficiency of the clocking-in system. The receptionists have always been very helpful and the nurses I have encountered have all been really friendly, considerate and caring. However, the doctor I saw on my most recent visit left me feeling disappointed. I felt the doctor was patronising, he kept butting in when I tried to give him information about my symptoms, and as a result I was not able to give him my full story before I was shoo'd out the door. Following my visit I felt my symptoms had increased over the next few days, which could have been prevented had the doctor taken more time to listen to me. Next time I need a doctors appointment I will be sure to ask for a different doctor.

My appointment was made via a walk-in centre, which was an appropriate first call. Your receptionist helpfully explained how and with whom my appointment had been made. The information board informed me that an emergency was delaying my appointment by a few minutes. I then saw a doctor who was informative, helpful and trusting. I was even given the closing times of the local chemists. It was agreed that I should attend the Freeman Hospital on the Monday after my Friday appointment. Subsequent follow up at the hospital confirmed the decisions taken by your doctor at the practice. I cannot think how the last visit could have been improved or made more efficient. I have come to expect this high level of service from a well resourced and well maintained surgery and would certainly let you know if there were any problems.

All staff (doctors, nurses, receptionists) strike me as being helpful, kind, and anxious to do their best for you. My impression is that the doctors are careful and thorough in their examinations, and give you time to say all you want to say. Making an appointment by phone is a little tiresome, involving constant dialling, but I've never yet been unable to get a same-day appointment, so no serious complaint. Making an appointment online is easy to do, but there are not usually many available. Home visits are at least sometimes made by the regular doctors, which is a great advantage. It would be nice if it were always the case.

My scores are based almost exclusively on my experience with my own doctor, Dr Peter Carrington, who is far and away the best GP I have ever had. My only problem with the BHG is that it is extremely popular in Heaton, and as such it is very difficult to get an off-the-cuff appointment, if needed. Every doctor is pretty much booked solid, weeks in advance. But I suspect this is a common theme within the best surgeries all over the UK. The receptionists are routinely helpful and by and large consistently good. The District Nurses who work within the practice are also excellent.

I find the service provided by our surgery to be of a very high standard. Most of my appointments are made in the computer however if I need an appointment the same day I can usually arrange this with a phone call in the morning. Also I am on a biological drug and if I think I have an infection of any kind I am seen fairly quickly the same day.
